FILA sneakers brand history
The Italian brand FILA's official history goes back to founding in 1911 in the town of Biella in Piedmont. It borrows its name the actual surname of two brothers, founders of a company that initially produced underwear and... mountaineers clothing. As time passed, the company went into sportswear market, too.
However, FILA had to wait until the 70s for their breakthrough, when FILA-branded products gained recognition due to 1973 collaboration with Björn Borg - the Swedish tennis legend. Ever since then, FILA has been iconic. In the 80s they took no prisoners while taking over the sports clothing business; their first bridgepost being tennis that they pretty much owned due to recommendations of such stars as Björn Borg, Boris Becker, Jennifer Capriati and Monica Seles.
FILA then expanded their reach, offering dedicated basketball, baseball and football footwear. Most famous NBA FILA player was Grant Hill (Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic).
Owing it to rapper Nas, FILA made its presence in the 90s music and fashion salons of New York, while in California the brand was popularized the legendary Tupac Shakur. 2Pac's particular favourites were basketball FILA Grant Hill kicks.
Upcoming 2018 FILA releases
The new millennium brought about significant changes. In 2007 FILA HQ relocated to South Korea; also its footwear offer gained new leaders, the most popular now being "Fila Heritage" and "Fila Shoes". Both are already available on our website. Keeping track of FILA offer in 2018 is strongly recommended, too, as among the upcoming drops there'll be 80s and 90s iconic retro sneakers iterations, strictly limited releases, and exciting collaborations.
